The Memphis Bell: American blues routed through Tokyo

Screen capture from The Memphis Bell’s music video, showing a man in a stylish suit with cowboy had and boots lying on a couch in a warehouse filled with large lighting fixtures and a space heater with a large kettle.

What is it: A music video oozing with cross-culture reverb coolness.

Perfect for: Enjoying a four minute, continuously-shot romp through a Japanese warehouse in which time, space, and genre collapse to form something that is very fun.

We happened across The Memphis Bell’s internet footprint by random chance during edits on a forthcoming FXO publication. Most everything having to do with the band is intended for a Japanese audience, so while we can't comprehend them linguistically, we still appreciate the vibe. The sound is good and the music video’s visuals are a stylistically satisfying combination of Spaghetti Western and contemporary low-budget filmmaking. It would be incredibly entertaining to catch them playing a live show in some out-of-the-way divebar.
